“We kind of went into our summer trying to block that stuff out,” said Dvorak. “We try not to get caught up in it. We’ve got a lot of guys working hard. Playing ECI was how I did my thing. We had a lot of guys that played over the summer or stayed active. It’s going to be an exciting year. The sky is the limit. We don’t know what will happen. We just want to keep getting better as a team.”
Dvorak averaged 15 points and four assists per game as a junior, then spent the grassroots season with ECI Prospects where he played a vastly different role than he’d been used to.
Playing in that kind of role helped him develop his overall game and learn how to make a different kind of impact on the court.
“Playing ECI; the role changed for me a lot,” said Dvorak. “It’s a much different team. I went in with a point guard mentality. Try to run the team and set guys up. I feel like I grew a lot. From a leadership standpoint and definitely from a defensive standpoint. You see guys that you aren’t used to seeing and that brought out the best in me.”
Dvorak’s a multi-sport stud for the Roughriders and has drawn interest from colleges to play football as well as basketball. He’s still deciding which one he’ll ultimately pursue beyond high school.
“I don’t know what exactly I’m going to do yet,” Dvorak said. “AAU season was a help for me basketball wise. I went down for a visit at Jamestown and got an offer. I talked to them a lot throughout the summer. Other schools like Bemidji, Minot, U Mary, Mayville and Concordia have all contacted me and talked to me. There’s still a football season to go and a basketball season to go. So things can change. I have intentions of playing something. I’m just not sure what yet.”
