Recruiting Report: Bez Mbeng (2021)
Good Counsel guard Bez Mbeng continued to show why he’s one of the best 2021 prospects in the area over the weekend at Will Barton Elite Camp. The athletic 6-foot-3 junior consistently made shots from all over the court. This is one thing that Mbeng has really focused on in recent months.
“My jump shot got a lot better since the last high school season,” Mbeng told Prep Hoops. “To play at the next level, you’ve got to have a jump shot. I’ve been in the gym every day getting shots up. Getting on the gun and shooting until I can’t anymore.”
Mbeng also mentioned that he has become more explosive and his defense has improved. In the past, he recalled being regarded as just a good offensive player, but that isn’t the case anymore. Mbeng noted that some things he does on the court that might not show up on the stat sheet include his hustle plays and how he energizes his team.
“Virginia Tech is standing out the most in my recruitment right now,” Mbeng stated. “They’ve been hitting me up a lot recently. St. Joe’s, Yale, and La Salle have also reached out.
The Hokies have already hosted Mbeng on campus during June for an unofficial visit. He will also be traveling to La Salle Team Camp this weekend with Good Counsel. Some other schools Mbeng says he has interest in visiting include Temple, Miami and Maryland.
What are his current goals?
“Try and get to American and qualify for the Alhambra.”
Bez Mbeng is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-10 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2020 class, click here.
