At 6’1, Williams can play either the point or the off guard and takes pride in leading by example on the court. He brings a vocal presence to the floor, can score the ball, get his teammates involved and also enjoys playing defense and rebounding.
A year ago, Williams was a key varsity member on a deep and talented East squad that went 13-8 overall. He averaged 5.2 points and 1.5 assists per game and shot 45 percent from the field.
“The talent was off the charts we had all the pieces for a great year and I was very excited especially playing varsity as a freshman,” Williams said. “We definitely worked hard from day one , a lot of bonding going on and we always knew how to have fun. Before games we loved to listen to music and get pumped up the seniors we’re also great leaders by example I learned a lot from them, sadly in the first round of sub state we lost but I look at it as a minor setback for a major comeback and I feel even from that lost it made everyone even closer than before.”
Williams is poised for a big sophomore season with the graduation of several key seniors and a bigger role with the Aces this year. He says running with MoKan Elite has helped prepare him for his sophomore year and beyond.
“Mokan basketball definitely changed my mindset, playing in the EYBL definitely humbled me because everyone is as good as you or better so if you don’t take it serious you will be exposed,” Williams says. “As far as my high school season my coaches are expecting a big sophomore season from me and with the competition I played against and the knowledge that I received from the college base program I think I’m going to have a great sophomore season as well.”
To that end, Williams has been working hard in the weight room this past summer and improved his all-around strength and explosion.
“I’ve been in the weight room a lot trying to get stronger and become more explosive also working on different ways to take more care of my body,” he says. “I also worked on my defense and trying to have quicker feet , I worked on making shots of the dribble and lastly when I was preparing for the Eybl finishing over bigger defenders.”
Williams says his father has had the biggest impact on his basketball caree rto date.
“He has a lot of respect from people I don’t remember a time I have walked around a public place without someone saying my dad could hoop! it just makes me feel good as a person to know my father is known and respected by so many people and it makes me want to do better than him so my family and in the future if I have kids can feel the same way,” Williams said.
A fan of several guards, Williams says he enjoys watching Damian Lillard, Rocket Watts, De’Aaron Fox and others. Although he is still waiting for his first offer, Williams has started to draw some interest from college programs already.
