That certainly is the case in the Class of 2022 when you talk about Dallon Morgan. The developing 6-foot-8, 190-pound post was a bit player last season at Sprague High School but will see a much larger role in 2019-20. Morgan is up to the challenge and has been working hard this summer to get himself ready.
The key thing for Morgan has been getting set physically. “Just getting stronger definitely, because I’m playing against such bigger guys you have to be stronger or else they’re just going to push you around,” Morgan said. “You have to be able to do that or else you’re not going to be able to play at this high level. So I’ve been working on my weight, getting bigger and stronger, and getting faster – working out with older people and better competition.”
Morgan was brought along slowly last season at Sprague. In a role largely coming off the bench, he averaged 5 points and 4.2 rebounds last season. Expect that production to increase perhaps two-fold. In June ball, Morgan was actively running the floor, scoring around the hoop but also facing up and knocking down threes with a soft touch. He’s a skilled big man who’s still growing – Sprague head coach Jordan Graneto notes that Morgan’s doctors indicate that Morgan may grow as tall as 7-feet.
The basketball bloodlines are there as both of Morgan’s older brothers Tanner (Northern Colorado) and Harris (Mt Hood/Casper) played collegiately and he’s not afraid to surpass the goal that they set. “My main goal is to be better than my brothers pretty much,” Morgan siad. “Definitely play D-I and I want to say in the Pac-12 for sure.”
There’s still plenty of time and Morgan’s development will certainly be one to watch. There seems to be no question that he’s willing to put in the effort. “I just want to keep on working,” Morgan said.
