A 6’7 wing player, Shaw is an aggressive defender who works hard on pushing his opponents away from the middle of the court and is a terrific shot blocker. At the offensive end, he has a well rounded skill set and can handle the ball and shoot from distance. He has a quick release and brings intensity to the court.
He says running with MoKan Elite this offseason has helped his game grow as he has focused on improving on his all-around game and improving his shooting percentages.
“Playing for my summer team, MOKAN Elite, has been a great experience,” he says. “I have been able to play with some of the best guys in the country. It’s always fun to play with like minded athletes who love the game. I look forward to playing as a leader on my high school team. Hopefully my teammates and I can
bring home the state championship.”
Shaw played on a deep and talented Blue Valley team last season and says the experience helped his game grow throughout the season.
“The seniors really welcomed me as the only freshman on the varsity team,” he says. “The school fans kept the gyms packed and the ambiance was always extremely wild. Blocking a shot would ignite the crowd.”
Shaw says his parents have had the biggest influence on his basketball career to date.
“My mom, who is my No. 1 fan always gives it to me straight when it comes to what I need to correct on my game to make me a better player,” he says. “My dad gives his time to take me to the places that I need to go in order to work on my game or does individual workouts with me.”
Shaw says he is a fan of several NBA players but looks to emulate Paul George and Kevin Durant the most.
“Both players are influential on offense and defense,” Shaw says. “Both players are great at driving and shooting, of which I use in my game. Paul George has the ability to lock up any player he defends and I feel like I can do this as well.”
Also a terrific student who reports a 4.0 GPA, Shaw recently picked up his first offer from SEC school Vanderbilt, a program known for its academics and athletics. He has also drawn interest from several other high major programs as well.
