Prospect Spotlight: Adam Walden (2022)
Adam Walden is one of the most improved bigs we’ve seen in recent months locally regardless of class. He still has a long way to go, but the class of 2022 center has made significant strides in recent months and we saw evidence of this recently at the Will Barton Elite Camp. Walden’s body continues to improve. He is becoming more athletic and asserting himself on a consistent basis.
“I’ve really tried to get myself in shape. Hit the weight room a lot more. Work on my body, my core. To be able to jump more and get off the ground so I can protect the rim, rebound,” Walden told Prep Hoops during a recent interview. “I’ve really been trying to improve my post game a lot more. With the mid range, hook shots, drop steps, things like that, and catching the ball.”
The work Walden has been putting in was on display for all to see earlier this month at camp. He showcased impressive footwork on the low block. One other thing Walden did really well was pass out of the post. He shows a good understanding of the game. Walden knows the nuances of the game and does the little things that might not often show up on the stat sheet.
“I make sure I move my man. I’m physical with him so that when my teammate comes in to spell me the opponent is worn down,” he explained. “I’ll make sure he’s not involved with rebounds. Box him out, I just keep wearing him down. Sometimes move him out the way so my teammate can get a layup.”
Listed at 6-foot-9, 250 pounds with a wingspan reported over 7 feet, Walden is certainly a forceful paint presence with a bright future. What are his goals?
“I really want to go to a D1 College and expand my game so I can go to an even higher level. I really want to play professionally.”
