Continue ReadingThe class of 2021 is being tagged as one of the best classes in years. There’s several sure fire 1 and done prospects at the top. Las Vegas basketball has excellent representation on the list. The class is full of long athletic guards and wings. Lead by top 5 all world PG Jaden Hardy, 4 players cracked the top 65. PH takes a look at all 5 of the players on the list in this article.
#4 Jaden Hardy 6’5 PG Coronado – What’s not to love about Jaden Hardy? He has prototypical size and athleticism to be effective at either backcourt spot. Hardy has fabulous floor vision. He can create a shot for himself or his teammates off the bounce. One of the few combo guards I’ve ever seen who is more effective at the 1 than the 2. He’s asked to be the primary option for his Coronado squad during the winter, however he effectively plays the role of distributor and maestro for a loaded Vegas Elite EYBL team during the grassroots season. Hardy is the best prospect to come out of Vegas since Troy Brown.
#41 Zaon Collins 6’0 PG Bishop Gorman – Collins is nicknamed Sauce. It’s appropriate because he straight up cooks on the court. A 6’0 blur, Collins will blow by you, turn the ball over and dunk it before you have a chance to get into a stance. Even with all the shake and bake included, at the heart of the matter he is a pure PG who loves to create open shots for his teammates. Ultimate paint touch player, it’s nearly impossible to keep him out of the lane. Collins comes in at #41 on the list, but after a strong grassroots season and with additional responsibilities this year for the 8 time consecutive state champs don’t be surprised to see him rise.
#61 Glenn Taylor 6’5 SF Cheyenne – Taylor has been one of the most hyped players in the state since he was in the 8th grade. Crafty, and with a high IQ, Taylor has shown the ability to finish against taller more athletic players. He’s a stat sheet stuffer that does a little bit of everything. Expect Taylor to rebound, slash, and penetrate and kick. Funky elbow release on his jump shot, but he has proven that he can make it. He has already received several D1 offers.
#65 Will Mclendon 6’4 SG Bishop Gorman – I think it’s time that Will Mclendon got a little more love. I hear all the things about what he can’t do, or what he isn’t. What he is, is an ultra – competitive highly skilled shooting guard. It may look awkward at times, but the results are there. Mclendon is great in catch and shoot situations, and can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim. He has a good enough handle to be effective at the 2, and has several change of direction dribbles in his bag. With the #1 player in the state Isaiah Cottrell transferring out, I expect everyone will come to recognize Mclendon’s contributions by year’s end.
#201 Anthony Swift 6’6 SF Desert Pines – I’m so glad Swift made our list. I’ve watched him work hard over the summer to improve his game. Swift is a raw talent, however no one is going to out compete him. He still has a ways to go when it comes to enhancing his skills, but he will bring it every night. He runs the floor fluidly, and is an excellent rebounder. With Swift you get the added bonus of having a rim protector at the 3. Nothing gets into the lane uncontested on his watch. He currently has offers from several mid majors, however I suspect a full year under his belt at title contender Desert Pines is going to open a lot of eyes.
