These athletes compliment each other on both ends of the court, and give Pinson Valley a strong 1-2 punch. If Woods and Kool-Aid are at their best, Pinson Valley will be hard to defeat this season, and be a favorite to win state. Here’s a breakdown of these prospects and how to defend them.
Kam Woods: Electric with the basketball. Crafty handle. Loves the deep ball. Gets into the paint whenever he wants. Is not afraid to take any shot. Extremely confident. Heats up in a hurry. Makes plays off the bounce. Gambles in the passing lanes.
Defending Kam Woods: You have to make Woods settle for bad 3s. If you allow Woods to break you down off the bounce, he will get to his spot whenever he wants. Be physical with Woods. Bump him on every cut and anytime he is playing off the ball. Contest every shot. Make him work for every point.
Kool-Aid: Extremely athletic. Can finish above the rim. Very good attacking the rim and getting to his midrange. Good spot up shooter. Very good at getting down hill and using his body. Strong bodied kid. Dog. Elite on ball defender. Makes winning plays on both ends.
Defending Kool-Aid: Keep him out of the paint. Contest every jumper. Athletically this is not a battle you can win. Make things hard for him. He will match your physicality, so you have to be a smart defender. Wherever he goes, you go.
