James Brennan, Berea – Brennan got better over the course of the afternoon. He looked a little overwhelmed at the start of the day but by the last game of the afternoon, James had acclimated to the level of competition and settled in to contribute to his team’s win. Look for him to help Berea to some wins this season.
Eli Brown, Paducah Tilghman – Brown is definitely on the radar for a 2021 ranking spot after Saturday. He’s got good size at 6’2 and shoots the leather off the ball. Not only can Eli shoot it but he can shoot it with deep range. Tilghman should be able to rely on Eli to be their go to scorer this season and could be a scholarship level player by the time he graduates.
Tyler Bush, Ryle – Bush was a player who really caught my eye on Saturday. Tyler has good size at 6’4 and strong academics that make me think he can be a scholarship player at the next level in the right situation. He made a ton of shots for the afternoon and showed he can play some defense too. He’s another kid who needs a spot in our 2021 rankings.
Sam Campbell, Oldham County – Campbell is extremely solid and a good teammate. A point guard by trade, Sam played everything on the court on Saturday, including the post. Camp settings are hard on point guards because there can be so many on one team. Sam elected to not worry about positions and just play ball and he looked really good doing it. A solid D2/NAIA prospect for sure.
Jaylen Dorsey, Berea – Dorsey looks the part of a college prospect with good size and athleticism. He took a little while to settle into the flow of the games on Saturday but once he did, Jaylen showed why he recently cracked our 2021 rankings. He’s got the tools to be an impact player in the 11th region this season and potentially a scholarship level player in college.
Scotty Draud, Beechwood – Scotty was back to his old self on Saturday after missing 6 weeks with mono. Draud was able to get to the rim and finish or knock down threes from the perimeter. At 6’6, Scotty has the positional size that schools covet but needs to continue improving his mid range game over the next year so he can score more than 3s or at the rim.
Scott Hamm, Russell County – Hamm was maybe the most physical player at camp on Saturday. Scott is about 6’5 and built like a brick wall. He was able to push other players around and finish in the post. When he missed, he was able to gather the rebound and finish it. It would be nice to see Hamm add some stretch to his game and show he can score away from the bucket.
DaShawn Jackson, Frederick Douglass – DaShawn has been highly ranked in our 2021 rankings since they started but he has started to show improved athleticism which is something really lacking in his game previously. Jackson is really a player who can play on the ball but may be best off the ball as a driver/shooter. Regardless, he had a really good day on Saturday and projects as a likely D1 player.
Colby Napier, Knott County Central – One of the best performers at the Expo, Napier just made shots all day long. Most players these days don’t understand how to hunt shots but Colby does. He works to get open and was hitting threes at well over 50% for the day on Saturday. Baseball seems to be his preference for college but he could play scholarship basketball in my opinion.
