As we prepare for another season, be on the lookout for the upcoming Top 250 Expos in your region. In the mean time, the staff will be hitting you with several preseason nuggets. The purpose of this article is to identify eight of the biggest breakout candidates you will find in Northern Virginia.
ZACK BLUE | 6’0 G | PATRIOT ’20
Blue should be in line for major run in the Pioneers backcourt this season. The well-rounded lead guard is coming off a productive summer and should be ready to contribute on a consistent basis.
MARINO DIAS | 5’9 G | WASHINGTON-LEE ’21
Dias is a highly skilled shot maker in the Generals backcourt. He had a great summer playing with Pro Look 16’s and looks set for an uptick in production.
CHRIS KUZEMKA | 5’10 PG | CENTREVILLE ’21
Kuzemka helped the Wildcats finish out the 2019 campaign in style, and he became more consistent along the way. Expect more of the same for a longer period of time during the upcoming season. Kuzemka is a true point guard who has become much more aggressive and confident.
STALIN OAKS | 5’9 PG | TC WILLIAMS ’21
Oaks comes to TC from Pallotti where he gained valuable experience on the ball. He’s super quick and crafty. Opposing ball-handlers will have trouble with Oaks as he is an absolute pest on defense.
MANNY OJO | 5’6 PG | OSBOURN ’21
Ojo will be expected to play a much bigger role for Coach Rocky Carter as he will be one of the more experienced returners on the team. By all accounts he is mentally ready to embrace this challenge and lead the Eagles to wins.
GREG SPURLOCK | 6’3 G | ROCK RIDGE ’21
Spurlock will likely be a key player for Coach Jey Geyer throughout his junior campaign. He’s a lefty with size and versatility. Spurlock should be able to pick up some of the slack left by the graduating seniors.
JACK TAYLOR | 6’3 SG | MARSHALL ’21
Taylor will be expected to take his game to the next level under first-year Head Coach Jerry Lin. He will be given plenty of opportunities considering the team lost some key contributors, and we expect him to have some big games as a result.
CEPHAS WILSON-BAHUN | 6’4 F/C | JOHN PAUL THE GREAT ’21
Wilson-Bahun is a high energy forward who looked really good throughout the summer and should get plenty of run this season. His ability to rebound out of his area and protect the rim will prove essential for the Wolves.
