Larue is a 6’8 highly skilled 4/5, while Dunning is a 6’5-6’6 ultra athletic 3. Both players will hit the glass hard and make plays for each other. Here is a break down of each player and how to defend.
Cole Larue: Average athlete. Very soft hands. Comfortable playing with his back to the basket or facing up. Can put the ball on the floor for 2-3 dribbles. Can stretch the floor to the 3 point line. Alters shots on defense. Solid rebounder. Very good post passer. Needs to continue developing post moves and demand the ball more.
Defending Larue: Make him uncomfortable. Crowd his space in the mid post. Do not allow him to dissect your defense. Stunt at him once he puts the ball on the floor. Make him finish over top. Do not allow him to shoot in rhythm. Make Larue hit shots off the bounce. Keep him off the offensive glass.
Barry Dunning: Top 3 talent in the 2022 class. Ultra athletic. Long armed. Can play multiple positions. Defends multiple positions. Very instinctive player on both ends. At his best slashing to the rim. Very good rebounder. Solid mid range shot. Improved playmaker and 3pt shooter.
Defending Dunning: Play Dunning straight up. Do not allow him to get into the paint. He is skilled enough to get by defenders that over crowd, and athletic enough to win battles against decent athletes. Stunt defenders when he drives. Turn Dunning into a shooter and ball mover. Keep him off the glass.
