This was the third annual All-Star Game hosted by KB Sports. Chick-fil-A was a sponsor of the event, over one-hundred players received free breakfast.
We don’t give enough recognition to players who can knock down free throws. While its good to be able to shoot a jumper or beyond the arc, making free throws is essential.
As a former player,I can recall my coach putting emphasis on making the shot count if I made it to the stripe. “You have to make the free shots,” my coach would say from the sideline.
Free throws are also known as the charity stripe. Drawing the foul and making it the line is a great opportunity to score an easy basket. Free throw shooting is something that should be consistent. Winning a game can depend on a players ability to shoot at the line.
Here’s take a look at some of the top free throws shooters at the KB Sports All-Star Weekend.
Deshon Potts, 2022, 6’0 small forward. Potts competed in the Free Throw Contest in which he placed first place. His ability to focus on the line and keep his shooting form contributed to his win. He shoots with confidence and follows through with his shot. I had a chance to catch up with him and talk about why free throws are an important element to the game.”When you’re playing in a game free throws can help you win,” said Potts. He’s a player you want in the game drawing the foul to get to the stripe.
Drekari Jones, 2020, 6’6 small forward. Jones is the type of player that can feel the shot going in before the ball falls through the net. He is (confident) with his shooting abilities at the line. His form is one that many players wish they had. After the contest I caught up with Jones to get his perspective on the importance of shooting free throws. “Free throws are a vital part of the game,” said Jones. He’s a player that values free throws.
