Valparaiso has made Williams a priority throughout the recruiting process. The wing took his first official visit to the MVC program over the weekend and broke it down to PHI.
“Valpo was a pretty fun experience. I have a great relationship with the coaching staff and the players. On the visit the best part was being around the guys and seeing how they interact with each other and doing the activities they do around campus. Even the little things like walking around it was an overall good feeling.”
What is Valpo’s plan for utilizing him in their system?
“They said mainly a decision maker and play a similar role to Javon Freeman and maybe follow in his footsteps or better. Fit wise I think it’ll be good because they like to get out and run and I’m best in transition. Also they like to get up and guard which is a strength of mine too!”
Williams told us what is up next.
“I have another official set up with Akron September 6-8 so see where that takes me.”
The Simeon wing says Akron and Valpo are the two main schools in the mix at this time. What does he like about Akron’s program?
“I like the coaching staff. I talk to Coach Groce a lot and built a good relationship with them!”
At this time he doesn’t have a timeline for making a decision. He also broke down the exciting news that he will be joining Simeon for his senior season and what he is looking forward to about that.
“Just looking to turn some heads with a relatively young team. We will probably be counted out a lot. Also playing for Coach Rob (Smith) is pretty exciting and it’s a change for me so I’m ready to start.”
Williams will team up with standout junior Ahamad Bynum and sophomore Jaylen Drane to form one of the best perimeter trios in the state!
