Robert Martin 5’9″ Brad Beal Elite (CBC): An excellent young point guard who walks the balance of being a facilitator of the offense along with his ability to score at all three levels. He runs the pick and roll in an expert manner where he can find the roll man in lane for a layup or find the space for a driving layup or a pull-up jumper. He also has very good acceleration in the open court in the transition game.
Kyle Bruce 5’8″ Team YOBO (Blue Springs): A small point guard who plays a very fearless game as he can penetrate and get into the lane and take on the bigger defenders. He did a fine job of finishing with floaters and short jumpers, plus he can keep defenders honest with a 3-pointer. He’s strong and he does a good job of staying low on the dribble.
Larry Hughes, Jr. 6’4″ Brad Beal Elite (CBC): The young wing can really shoot the basketball and he displayed it in one particular game in which he made six 3-pointers. He has excellent form on his high-arching jumper from long range. When he is going, his teammates did a nice job of getting him the ball. He is a solid athlete whose all-around offensive skills are also beginning to emerge.
Christian Davis 6’3″ Brad Beal Elite (Christian-O’Fallon): A very potent offensive player with good size and a versatile skill set. He has the ability to create his own shot off the dribble with good ball handling ability and a number of escape moves. His mid-range game is good and he can knock down the deep ball as well. He is also a solid defender who will get out in the transition game.
Braden Appelhaus 6’3″ Team YOBO (Blue Springs): The lean lefty was one of the most impressive young perimeter shooters during the tournament. He can put together a string of 3-pointers when he is on his game. In a big win against KC Run GMC to start the tournament, he knocked down three consecutive treys to rally his team from an early deficit. He can hit them off the catch or on pull-ups as well.
Tanner Lawes 6’3 Mid-Mo Elite (Harrisburg): An unheralded young wing from Mid-Missouri who did an excellent job from 3-point range in the games that I watched. He moved around well and found his open spots and knocked down shots on a consistent basis. He was also a solid ball handler who played well off of others.
