WICHITA, Kan. — A look at some of the top young forwards at last weekend’s Grind Regional Finals in Wichita, Kan.
4-Mason Belcher, 6’4, F, 2022, Maize, NLHA 15 Perez
Belcher is a good combo forward who has size and length. He moves well in and out of the paint and showed an interest in rebounding and playing in heavy contact situations. Belcher keeps his head up and looked to cut inside and finish plays close to the basket.
43-Elijah Delp, 6’6, F, 2022, St. John, NLHA 15 Perez
Delp has elite height for his age and shows promise as across the board as an all-around rim defender and scorer. At 6’6, Delp makes the most of his height and gets several touches by playing up and aggressive inside. His length also played a large role as he was able to contest shots, get blocks and secure rebounds.
31-Taner Hecht, 6’4, F, 2021, Wamego, SSA Elite White 16U
A nice defensive presence down low when his fellow post players are out wide and he has to man the block for himself. He’s a fluid player with the ability to put the ball on the floor and get a bucket or two. He has a great free throw shot and was impressive as a clean-up player in transition as he was great as an offensive rebounder.
30-Tykeem Hobson, 6’4, G/F, 2021, Wichita West, Perry Ellis Elite 16U
Hobson is a physical player with great strength and a lot of grit. He is a quick player and looked strong against post players who had size and weight on him. He looked strong as a rebounder and he was unstoppable at times on both ends of the floor. He also had some smart put back plays and scored in transition around the rim.
40-Charles Snyder, 6’5, F, 2021, Emporia, SSA Elite Black 16U
A nice forward on the rise in Kansas with good length and a great deal of hustle. A tough, hard-nosed player who makes good decisions with the ball on offense and gambles at the right time on defense. He’s an athletic player and can defend the ball and got several uncontested looks inside.
