Georgia has always been full of talent and here we take a look at which prospects took a big step in their stock. Prospects like Caleb Murphy, Matthew Cleveland, Melvin Edwards Jr., Caleb Byrd, and Christian Russell are just a few prospects that had a stock rising spring, summer this year.
2021 F Matthew Cleveland (Pace Academy) – Matthew Cleveland was not only one of the state’s biggest stock risers this grassroots season, but was one of the nation’s top stock risers as well regardless of class. Cleveland is a 6-foot-6 versatile forward who holds super athleticism and has the solid physical profile for a kid his age. His solid play this grassroots season earned him multiple offers from schools like Louisville, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Miami, Maryland, Florida, Seton Hall, Iowa State, Georgia Tech, and more. He also received an invited to the annual and famous NBA Top 100 Camp back in June and to the USA Basketball mini-camp in July. Cleveland is in for a big junior season with his new school at Pace Academy.
2020 G Caleb Murphy (Grayson High School) – pictured – The 6-foot-3 combo guard, Caleb Murphy, had one of the biggest stock rises in his class this spring, summer with the Atlanta Celtics on the Adidas Gauntlet. Murphy did not have much buzz at all coming into this grassroots season and after having a fairly well junior campaign with powerhouse Norcross High School. Over the last couple of months, he has received offers from high majors like Nevada, Texas A&M, Xavier, NC State, Florida, Ole Miss, TCU, Mississippi State, Clemson, and others. His stack of offers are certainly not finished. The now senior can earn much more offers and interest as his senior year goes along.
2020 PG Caleb Byrd (Newton High School) – One of the states most underrated guard in the 2020 class, Caleb Byrd had himself very solid grassroots season running with Game Elite JB in the Adidas Gauntlet. The now senior had earned himself a bunch of offers before cutting his list recenlty. Wofford, Murray State, and Georgia Southern make up the final three schools for the 6-foot-1 point guard. Byrd will play his senior season at Newton High School, who also produced prospects like now Kentucky point guard Ashton Hagans. Byrd is a tough and shot making guard who holds great off-ball value with his shooting mechanics. A commitment could be coming pretty soon.
2020 F Melvin Edwards Jr. (Carrolton High School) – The 6-foot-6 forward Melvin Edwards Jr. of Carrolton High School was one of the few prospects who earned major interest after Georgia’s high school team camps during the NCAA June live period. Edwards Jr. is a sleeper in the state and has a nice game set in him. He is extremely athletic, holds long arms, and has the explosiveness that helps his game on both ends of the floor. Mid major programs like Mercer, UNC Wilmington, Saint Louis, Tennessee State, and others have offered and shown interest in Melvin.
2020 C Christian Fussell (Greenforest Christian) – Greenforest Christian big man Christian Fussell has cut his list of schools to just five recently and is expected to take visits to all five before making a decision. Dayton, VCU, Middle Tennessee State, Charlotte, and Florida Gulf Coast round out the top five schools for the 6-foot-8 big man. Fussell had himself a solid grassroots season with Team Forrest, a non-shoe sponsored program out of Atlanta, Georgia. He is a super effective big man on the glass, holds an effective paint presence defensively, and earns most of his buckets down low and around the basket.
