Here is a look at some 2020 Florida athletes who are flying under the radar with some starting to gain some traction.
ICMYI: Part 1 (2020 Prospects)
Amarachi Ujagbor (Pembroke Pines Charter)
2020 6’6″ Pembroke Pines Charter forward Amarachi Ujagbor is a long body who likes to slash and hit the mid-range jumper. Still a work in progress offensively, he holds an offer from FIU currently. Ujagbor is not lacking strength and his progress has been coming along. Look for Ujagbor to dig in this year and put his body on the line and earn more free throw trips.
Van Wilkes (Winter Park)
An under the radar player, 2020 Winter Park 6’5″ guard Van Wilkes is a talented outside shooter. The younger brother of FSU forward Wyatt Wilkes, Van Wilkes has a quiet leadership in his game and he’s attacking more. Winter Park leans on Wilkes alongside a young cast and he should thrive as a senior.
Jonthy Candelario (Orlando Christian Prep)
For Orlando Christian Prep, the program is always in line for a deep playoff run. For this new group, 2020 6’4″ Jonthy Candelario is a veteran leader who holds things down for this group in his role. A sharpshooter, he is someone who has deep basketball knowledge and can fit right into any college program and compete. Candelario is a quiet and confident player.
Paul Matthews (Crossroad)
A Class 2A state semifinalist, Crossroad Academy has a very determined player in 2020 6’5″ guard/forward Paul Matthews. He has long arms and very good moves to the rack. Matthews doubles as a core leader on the defensive end and his shooting prowess. His name is out there now and this is his chance to draw college attention this fall.
Eric Canavan (Windermere)
Dakota Rivers is now at FGCU after graduating and Windermere is in need of someone to step up inside with three-headed 2021 guard trio Trey Moss, EJ Yorke and Kanye Jones. 2020 6’6″ forward Eric Canavan is someone who blended in well off the bench last season. He is going to be asked to do a whole more this season alongside the speedy and versatile guard trio. Canavan has plenty of reliability to his game.
