These players are college talents that coaches shouldn’t over look when evaluating the area. Each one has their own spot at the next level, without a doubt, whether it be basketball or another sport.
• Idris Lawrence (5’10” / PG / Pickerington North / Hoopsters-Tillman): Lawrence did work with Pick North last season, and will build upon that in a few months. A quick guard that can get into the lane and finish with finesse. Lawrence brings a quick first step and the ability to rise up and drain it from mid-range. Idris has the ability to be a energetic defender when his motor is going, which is always. There’s a chance this winter could be one where the junior makes a bigger name for himself than he already has. Should fit in perfectly next to Shedenhelm and Sawyer, as they did last year.
• Griffin Shaver (6’1” / CG / Ontario / Extreme Heat): Shaver was one of the best scorers in the MOAC last season, and can definitely play at the next level. Shaver is a coach on the floor, that communicates on both ends. The junior can shoot it lights out, off the catch or the dribble. A lockdown defender on-ball, Shaver has the ability to guard the opposing team’s best guard. Plays baseball as well, so misses out on a key spring period, but plays with Extreme Heat in July. Shaver comes off as one of those guards that will score a lot of points at a smaller college level.
• Makhale Massey (6’3” / SF / Northland / Hidden Gems Black 17U): Massey was one of the better players in the City League last season. An athletic wing that works well off-ball but can operate on-ball as well. Massey gets behind the defense on baseline cuts and can clean up misses as well. Plays with high intensity at times, and makes winning plays. Massey should see a boost in production this coming winter.
• Henry Hinkle (5’11” / PG / Olentangy Liberty / Nova-Lemon): Hinkle received solid playing time last year with Liberty, and that’s going to only go up from here. Hinkle can knock it down from deep, as well as create for other teammates. With the graduation of their top two players, the Patriots will need someone to step up. The junior will help in that void, after gaining plenty of varsity experience last season.
• Dylan Johnson (6’1” / SG / River Valley): Dylan Johnson is an underrated multi-sport athlete. His athleticism transfers over to the basketball court with no problem. Johnson is a speedy player who can handle the ball, but works a lot off-ball. Johnson can get past defenders by cuts to the rim.
