I could spend days writing about all the high major players that are participating. However in an event of this magnitude, inevitably some lessor know players always seem to get on the radar. In this article PH takes a look at some of the sleepers that have caught my eye this week.
Baye Fall 6’11 C Colorado Hawks 2023 – You better get used to the name Baye Fall. If you haven’t heard it before, you will be hearing a lot over the next four years. The incoming 6’11 incoming freshman is so raw, that’s it’s almost a positive. He’s long, bouncy and surprisingly coordinated for his age. He is playing in the 17U division of a high level tournament, and it’s hard to tell him apart. While it’s early, it’s not unrealistic to start thinking of him as a high major and or potential lottery pick.
Collin Moore 6’3 F Mac Irvin Fire 2020 – Moore is a dumb athlete. He’s super bouncy and as long as Jima Gatwech isn’t around he’s a favorite to win any high school dunk contest. The only reason he’s considered a sleeper is because he plays on a loaded Mac Irvin squad with top 25 C/O 2020 Adam Miller and top 10 C/O 2022 Amari Bailey. He can shoot it a little, handle it a little bit, however none of it is relevant. His strength is a combination of two things, he’s a willing defender that can lock down on the perimeter, and he is special when playing in transition.
Jalen Haynes 6’9 C E1T1 2020 – Haynes is a wide body old school post. He’s not going to wow you with overwhelming athletic ability, however play him 1 on 1 down low at your own risk. He has a great post skill set. It includes both shoulder jump hooks, spin moves and up and unders. He is currently ranked the #53 player in the state of Florida, which only highlights the depth in the sunshine state. Haynes currently holds offers from Austin Peay, Central Florida, and Mississippi St to name a few.
Dominic Escobar 6’4 G 2020 – Escobar makes my sleeper list because he is a shooter with surprising athletic ability. Playing alongside one of the best players in the nation in Zaire Williams, Escobar gets ample time to get off his shot, however he’s just sneaky enough to show the ball, drive by and dunk on you.
John Hart 6’2 G Seattle Rotary 2020 – If you can shoot the ball you always have a chance. Hart may be a sleeper, however his quick trigger and dead eye accuracy have caught my eye. He’s more of a point that plays like a two, and all he needs to do is see one go down to catch fire.
Chris Dockery 6’4 Las Vegas Knicks 2021 – Here’s my take on Dockery. Visually he checks all the boxes. He is a long lean athlete, with a wingspan that Jay Bilas would love. He competes and has a good skill set that includes a decent handle and the ability to create a play for his teammate. The biggest issue with Dockery for me is that he plays at a robotic pace. It’s almost as if he’s thinking about each move he’s about to perform. What makes him a sleeper is the fact that that weakness, is easily fixable.
