- Devin McCoy: Despite being undersized as a point guard (5’8), Devin McCoy, who’s entering his senior season at Lincoln High, has been the anchor of the Hornets defense. In 18 games played last season, McCoy lead the league with 3.0 steals per game. In addition, Devin had a 1.59 steals per turnover ratio, which was second-best in the East. If Lincoln wants to make a run for the league title, having McCoy harass the opponents’ best guard will be key.
- Andy Manso: Also entering his senior season is Andy Manso. Looking to lead Scripps Ranch to back-to-back league titles, Manso is the defensive wing that every team needs and wants. A 5’11, lengthy guard/forward with good instincts for tracking down the ball. Last season, Andy averaged 2.1 steals per game and lead the league with a 1.60 steals per turnover ratio.
- Nathaniel Fano: Although Kearny High School struggled heavily last season (5-20 record), incoming senior, Nathaniel Fano, was able to shine some hope on an otherwise hopeless season. Finishing with a 1.17 steals per foul ratio, Fano was able to play the passing lanes and rip opponents without getting too physical.
- Mekhi Shaw: Mekhi Shaw is your classic defensive pest. A small guard with quick hands and a “who cares about offense?” mentality. Coming off a 1.9 steals per game season, Shaw is yet another defensive soldier groomed by Scripps Ranch High. You may be able to see a pattern of why Scripps won the league last year.
- Joshua Cox: Yes… it is another guard out of Scripps Ranch. I promise I’m not doing this on purpose. The school is just riddled with gritty, defensive-minded guards. Cox, who’s the epitome of an efficient defender, held a 1.68 steals per foul ratio and a 1.15 steals per turnover ratio. He’s among the top of the league in both statistics.
