Open gyms are happening, and fall leagues starting up, or soon will, but that’s about it. In this one, I wanted to take a look at a few players who you shouldn’t overthink it with.
• Marcus Johnson (6’3” / SF / Columbus South / All-Ohio Red): Marcus Johnson is highly ranked in the state, but I still believe he has another level to his game. Johnson showed some un-tapped range in his scoring ability the last few months, at times. An athletic player with bounce, that plays hard on both ends. Johnson is going to add a couple more D1 offers, we assume as he finishes out his high school career, especially if his jumper continues to improve.
• Gbolahan Adio (6’4” / SF / Richmond Heights / All-Ohio Red): When watching Adio you get the feeling of toughness, as he competes on both ends. The wing isn’t afraid to contest a shot at the rim, or defend a team’s best player. A player that can play above rim in transition, as well as score it from deep. Playing with All/Ohio Adio improved big time the last few months. The recruitment has picked up a bit and will continue to do so.
• Caleb Terry (6’10” / C / Alexander / Hidden Gems Black): Caleb Terry is one of the tallest players you’ll see on the court in Ohio, and he holds his position as expected. Moves rather well for his height, laterally as well. Terry can clean up the boards or catch a pass in transition. Multiple D2 offers, a D2 is going to be in very good shape if they land this one. D1 upside is definitely there, but a high D2 seems to be the perfect fit. Terry is a force, that it’s tough to get a shot over with his length.
• Tabias Thompson-Reece (6’2” / CG / Marion Harding): Not many outside of the Marion area will know this name, but it’s one to learn, if he gets his chance. Tabias brings great size to the guard postion which allows him to be a versatile defender. Rebounds well, and can handle the ball or be a secondary ball handler. Thompson does his best work in the mid-range game, on the pull up. Uses his spin move to get the cup and finish, also. Would like to see his lateral movement improve, but you can see the talent when watching him play without a doubt.
• Carl Blanton (6’2” / SG / Trotwood): Carl Blanton is a legit football prospect, that you can call the same on the hard wood. Blanton works on both ends, and a successful worker at that. Gets to the rim with the ball in his hands, or can be found open at the rim working without the ball. Quick hands and feet benefit him on both hands. Blanton will have a larger role after graduation hit Trotwood, for any hope of getting back to Columbus. Look for Blanton to put up some larger numbers across the board. Blanton may be a D1 player on the gridiron, but he could absolute play D2 on the hardwood, as wel.
