As we prepare for another season, be on the lookout for the upcoming Top 250 Expos in your region. In the mean time, the staff will be hitting you with several preseason nuggets. This series aims to highlight 30 of the best young cores in the DMV. A “young core” consists of players with at least two full years of high school basketball remaining. This includes prospects from the class of 2021 and younger. Here is a brief rundown of #15-11.
#15 GILMAN (MD)
Malik Missouri is coming into his own after a productive summer and should be ready to take the next step. Christian Winborne is one of the better long-term guards in the local 2022 class. Also keep an eye out for Justin Betts, Charlie Guyton, and Jalen Marshall.
#14 POLY (MD)
Poly has a nice young core to watch moving forward. Talented guards Bryce Lindsay and Trae English should see an uptick in minutes this year. Improving forward Hassan Massenburg looks poised for a bigger role as well. Adam Walden is a nice pickup who should give them some added size in the frontcourt, and Kwame Evans is an incoming freshman who has an impressive physical profile and serious potential.
#13 ST. FRANCES (MD)
Julian Reese, Byron Ireland, Khyrie Staten, and Elijah Davis represent a solid core of young 2021 prospects in the Panther program. Carlos Alexander is a dynamic 2022 guard prospect who can more than hold his own already.
#12 MARET (MD)
Quincy Allen is considered a top-tier wing prospect in the 2021 class nationally. Curtis Nixon is preparing to play an increased role in the paint this season. Ridge Parks and James Lerner are two young point guards to watch. Incoming freshman Bryson Wilson has a great motor and good size for the wing position.
#11 EPISCOPAL (VA)
Darius Johnson is an absolute stud and a dynamic lead guard prospect. The addition of 6’6 sniper Garrett Johnson certainly gives this young core a boost. The Maroon’s trio of 2022 prospects, Lou Hutchinson, John Loughlin, and Charlie Jackson, should grow together and become a force in the future.
