As we prepare for another season, be on the lookout for the upcoming Top 250 Expos in your region. In the mean time, the staff will be hitting you with several preseason nuggets. This series aims to highlight 30 of the best young cores in the DMV. A “young core” consists of players with at least two full years of high school basketball remaining. This includes prospects from the class of 2021 and younger. Here is a brief rundown of #30-26.
#30 RIVERDALE BAPTIST (MD)
Devon Savage and Guy Fauntleroy should be two of the more productive juniors in the area this season. Savage is a high-level shot maker and Fauntleroy is a lockdown perimeter defender with a fearless demeanor. The performances of these two will likely dictate their team’s results.
#29 MOUNT ST. JOSEPH (MD)
Ausar Crawley quietly had a tremendous season as a sophomore last year and looks to be in good position to build off that this season. The southpaw lead guard has the versatility to play on and off the ball because of his shot-making ability. Antonio Hamlin was one of the best freshmen in Baltimore last season and should once again play a key role in the backcourt for the Gaels. Sean Carr is a promising post prospect to watch moving forward.
#28 SOUTH COUNTY (VA)
Perhaps the most dynamic duo in Northern Virginia, Andre Speight and Trenton Picott will be a lot of fun to watch this year. The addition of Jaheim Brown boosts this young core with some size and potential in the front court.
#27 ST. MARIA GORETTI (MD)
As we saw at DMV Live, Vincent Payne is one of the best shooters you will find in the local 2021 class. Skilled 6-foot-5 wing Jordan Green emerged as a top-tier 2022 prospect with a big time motor, intriguing athleticism and a high ceiling.
#26 NATIONAL CHRISTIAN (MD)
Jakai Robinson is a bonafide high major wing prospect who is battle-tested. 6-foot-9 post prospect Jon Izemef doesn’t have the pedigree of Robinson, but he also has a good chance to be recruited by some big time schools down the road.
