As we prepare for another season, be on the lookout for the upcoming Top 250 Expos in your region. In the mean time, the staff will be hitting you with several preseason nuggets. The purpose of this article is to identify eight of the biggest breakout candidates you will find in the District of Columbia.
MICHAEL BROWN | 6’6 C | SIDWELL FRIENDS ’20
Brown has made significant strides to improve his overall game in recent months, and it looks like he’ll have a bigger role this season. One of his most important duties will include providing leadership intangibles to a relatively young Sidwell squad.
MIASIAH BROWN | 6’2 G | CESAR CHAVEZ ’21
One of the most tenacious perimeter defenders you will find in the city, Brown is a legitimate two-way threat who can score from anywhere on the floor.
DARREN BUCHANAN JR. | 6’5 SF | WOODROW WILSON ’22
Buchanan is preparing to be the go-to-guy for the Tigers this season, and should see a significant uptick in minutes. It will be interesting to see just how dominant he can be.
BROCK DAVIS | 6’4 F | GEORGETOWN DAY ’22
GDS will field a new-look roster this year and Davis figures to be a key part of the team’s core moving forward. He won’t need many touches to produce and will be a constant presence on the boards.
JAMIYL KIRKLAND JR. | 6’2 G | FRIENDSHIP TECH ’21
Kirkland quietly put together a solid campaign that helped result in a PCSAA championship for his team last season. We expect the talented lead guard prospect to take another step.
KIRAN KLING | 6’10 C | MARET ’20
The Frogs will have some big shoes to fill in the paint and on the boards with the departure of EJ Jarivs. Kling certainly won’t be able to do that on his own, but he looks ready to step in and contribute.
JUDAH MINTZ | 6’3 G | GONZAGA ’22
The path appears clear for Mintz to log big minutes during what could be a breakout sophomore campaign. Coming off an impressive summer, he is heading into this season with a ton of positive momentum.
JOHN “MANZIE” WILSON | 5’10 PG | ST. JOHN’S ’20
Wilson should hit the ground running in his second year as the Cadets lead guard. He played some of his best ball down the stretch last winter and should be a major contributor from day one during his senior season.
