There were three divisions: High School, 8th Grade and 6th Grade which gave us an opportunity to see some current prospects as well as a few younger players to keep an eye on.
Who Took Home The Hardware?
6th Grade: For the 6th Grade division, the Carolina Rockets took home the hardware as they were pretty dominant throughout the event. They won all of their games by an average of 27 Points with their closest game being the championship game where they were able to walk away with a 10 point win against the Skills Eyeview Ballers.
8th Grade: The Fayetteville Rebels took home the championship in this age division despite losing in Pool Play to a team that they would play again for the Championship. They would defeat Team Warchiefs and Sandhills Machine to get the win to end the grassroots season.
High School Division: This division was a bit different as it featured a team all the way from South Florida as well as a local team and a squad from the Triad. The Fayetteville Flash dominated the pool play games but would come up short for the championship against the Triad Finest squad who was unable to participate on Saturday.
Some Standout Prospects
Fayetteville Flash 2021 Guard Darius Jewell: It didn’t take him much time to get going as he caught fire from deep in their very first game of the tournament. He can shoot the trey ball at a high level but also showed some ability to beat his man off the dribble. Will be a player that we keep a close eye on as we expect him to have a breakout season for Westover.
Hoop Phi Hoop 2020 Forward Davaughn Seide: The top performer for his team throughout the event, he plays the game in a physical nature, initiating contact and finishing inside the paint. It didn’t matter how taller of strong his opponent was, he didn’t back down from a challenge and was productive game in and game out.
Fayetteville Flash 2022 Guard Freddie Dillone: Another player that we will be keeping a close eye on this season, he has a chance to be a special talent as long as he is locked in and playing with a high motor. He has the size already to be view as a prospect as he’s about 6’4, with a longer wingspan and will probably grow some more before it’s all said and done.
Hoop Phi Hoop 2020 Forward Chris Alexander: Offensively he was far from a finished product but he plays with energy and proved some of the small things for a team that you may not notice. Rebounding, collecting loose ball and just simply putting in the effort for his squad is what we saw from him.
