A role player for the Lancers as a junior, Abdul-Wahid averaged 6.9 points per game as Cole Nau, David Joplin, and Ben Nau garnered most of the headlines.
Heading into the 2019-20 season, Abdul-Wahid is ready to introduce himself to the Badger State. Arguably the fastest-rising prospect in the 2020 class, Abdul-Wahid started making a name for himself with a breakout spring and summer on the travel circuit with Ray Allen Select.
“It’s really great,” Abdul-Wahid told Prep Hoops Wisconsin. “I’ve been working really hard and it didn’t always show. But this summer it did and I really got my name out there more.”
While he came up as a forward, Abdul-Wahid has greatly improved his ballhandling and shooting, specifically from mid-range. Both Northern Michigan and Winona State offered the 6-foot-6 senior as a wing.
Northern Michigan: “A lot of Wisconsin guys go there. I know A.J. Makinen, Xavier Jones. I really bonded with the team when I went up for my unofficial a couple of months ago.”
Winona State: “They’re a really good school. They have a couple of Milwaukee guys too.”
Minnesota-Crookston is also showing strong interest in Abdul-Wahid at this time.
“Crookston said they want me to meet with the head coach on a visit,” Abdul-Wahid explained. “They were saying they could see me playing more of a guard position in college. They really like my game.”
Abdul-Wahid will take an official visit to Northern Michigan the weekend of Sept. 20. He said Navy had also been in touch periodically.
Still enjoying the recruiting process, the No. 17 ranked senior in Wisconsin plans to keep racking up his options throughout next season.
“I think I’m going to play out my senior season, because at the rate I’m developing, I think I could pick up some D1 offers,” he said. “I’ll schedule more official visits as I go.
“I’m still pretty new to the recruiting process, so I’d like to get my name more out there and see if I could get any offers from the southern or western regions.”
