Continue ReadingThe Prep Hoops Virginia team recently updated the class of 2021 rankings after watching these prospects finish their sophomore season of high school team and just recently another AAU season. We will dish another update out right before the high school season but right now here is a look at the top five junior guards in the state.
2021 6’4 Trevor Keels | Paul VI
Coming in at the top guard in Virginia and number three overall in our rankings is Trevor Keels of Paul VI. Keels is coming off a fantastic sophomore season at Paul VI where he was voted a CO WCAC Player of The Year with Casey Morsell and Justin Moore. Keels is a versatile guard that can score the ball at all three levels. One thing that we have seen Keels improve on recently is his passing skills. Keels is a high major guard that will be recruited by the top schools on the east coast.
2021 6’0 Darius Johnson | Episcopal
The second ranked guard in the state is Darius Johnson making a big jump to number four overall. Johnson is the younger brother of George Mason guard, Xavier Johnson. Darius really made a splash in the rankings because of his monster season at Episcopal where he shot lights out. Look for him to even take his game to another level this winter which should see another uptick in his recruitment.
2021 6’2 Brayon Freeman | Bishop O’Connell
Freeman comes in as the third ranked guard in the state and number five overall. Freeman is an explosive guard that is dominant with the ball in his hands and is able to get past defenders to finish hard at the rim. Look for Freeman to make a lot of noise this upcoming winter for a Bishop O’Connell team looking to capture a WCAC championship. A lot of the Knight’s success will be determined by how Freeman does.
2021 6’2 Allen Strothers | Menchville
Strothers is the fourth ranked guard in the state and seven overall. Strothers might have not played as much as he would have liked this summer with Boo Williams but he definitely got great experience playing behind three high major guards in Zion Harmon, Cam Thomas and Aminu Mohammed. Look for Strothers to use that experience this winter during his junior season at Menchville. In the past two months, Appalachian State and Robert Morris have offered him.
2021 6’3 Angelo Brizzi | Highland
Rounding out the top five guards in Virginia for the 2021 class is Angelo Brizzi of Highland School. Known as a high level shooter, Brizzi is starting to show a good all around offensive game. This summer for Team BBC, he showed that he is a smart player and is always making the right decision for his team. I have had the conversation with a few people talking about Brizzi possibly reaching the high major level.
