We will dish another update out right before the high school season but right now here is a look at the top five junior forwards in the state.
2021 6’5 Wesley Peterson | Bishop O’Connell
Peterson comes in as the top forward in Virginia and is currently slotted at 12 overall. Peterson is a 6’5 forward that has good versatility which allows him to do multiple things on both sides of the ball. Peterson brings good athleticism to the court and is a guy that you can count on to play good defense and finish well around the rim. This past summer in Capitol Hoops Summer League, Peterson averaged 13.3 points per game.
2021 6’6 Clarence Rupert | Miller School
The second best forward, Clarence Rupert has been one of the top stock risers this summer having earned offers from Bryant, Rider, St. Peter’s, UMass and Norfolk State. Rupert will be spending his junior season at Miller School where he will bring good productivity down low and play a pivotal role for the Mavericks this Winter.
2021 6’7 Avery Ford | Paul VI
Ford has been one of my favorite players in the area for two years now. He started to show promise as a solid bench player for Paul VI and now he is one of the Panther’s main guy in the low post. Ford can shoot it from deep, score over the defense in the post and has the ability to finish above the rim. He is always going to be a guy you can count on to play good defense as he alters shots and will rebound on both sides of the ball. Ford is someone that has grown into a role player to a main contributor for one of the top high school programs in the state.
2021 6’10 Houston Emory | Blue Ridge
Emory comes in as the 4th ranked forward in the state and is slotted at 18th overall. Emory has great length standing at 6’9 is definitely a guy that should see his stock sore this upcoming year at Blue Ridge. Emory can make shots from different spots on the court but can also finish in the low post. Finishing above the rim and blocking shots is also something that Blue Ridge fans will see a lot of this year from Emory. ODU was the first school to pull the trigger and offer Emory during this past summer.
2021 6’9 Matt Nunez | Woodside
One of the top rebounders from the Virginia 2021 class that I have seen is 6’9, Matt Nunez out of Woodside. This past summer playing with District WAWG, Nunez showed a lot of promise on both sides of the ball around the rim. I really liked how hard Nunez played this summer in the low post and I am expecting those things to continue this upcoming high school season. Look for more schools to seek out for his services in the coming months as he has potential to be a very solid post player on the mid major level.
