2021 6’5″, 205-pound guard Langston Love transferred to Montverde earlier this summer after averaging 23.1 PPG and 7.8 RPG for a Cibolo Byron P. Steele program that made it to the Class 6A state semifinals.
Ranked No. 21 in the 2021 ESPN rankings and No. 40 in the 2021 Prep Hoops rankings, Love discussed his move to national powerhouse Montverde.
“The opportunity to get the type of education I can get at Montverde was a big factor,” Love told Prep Hoops. “The fact that I will get to practice and play against some of the players in the country also appealed to me.”
At the time he announced his decision, the Eagles already had top prospects 2020 Cade Cunningham, 2020 Moses Moody, 2022 Dariq Whitehead, 2022 Caleb Houstan and 2022 Ryan Nembhard. They’ve since added 2020 UNC commit Day’Ron Sharp, 2020 Michigan commit Zeb Jackson, 2020 David Bohm and on Monday, 2020 Scottie Barnes (who left University School after two state titles with Vernon Carey Jr. the last two years).
In terms of Love’s recruitment, he has 14 offers from UCLA, Villanova, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, Marquette, Stanford, Texas Texas Tech, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Houston, Arkansas, Texas-San Antonino and New Hampshire.
He says he’s also received interest from Memphis, Kansas, Purdue, Butler and Louisville.
As for what schools he hears from the most, these are them: Baylor, Texas A&M, UCLA, Marquette, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
He says college coaches like his size, versatility and ability to score and defend.
Love spent his first summer with Houston Hoops in the EYBL and called it a great experience.
“I learned how to become a better decision-maker, play multiple positions better and give maximum effort at all times,” he said. “The EYBL is the best circuit in the country.”
In terms of his top strengths, Love pointed to his size and versatility, scoring ability and being able to defend 3 to 4 positions on the floor. He wants to continue to improve his all-around game.
Starting his basketball career in the 4th grade, he said he realized his true potential as a 7th grader.
Recently invited to the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team July minicamp on July 8.
“The USABJNT minicamp was an incredible experience as well,” he said. “I learned a lot and got to compete against some of the best players in the country. I hope to be invited back in October.”
Adding Love to the mix is a really fluid move by Montverde. He is a long and strong body who can really do work in the paint and make life hard as a defender. To bring him in with a deep group of senior athletes and some quick risers in the sophomore class will do wonders this season. The Eagles are competing with IMG in-state and the two have built a rivalry after IMG beat them in the Geico Nationals Semifinals last year and wound up winning it all.
