Continue ReadingThe AAU season is over and we are diving into the individual player rankings. We start with the point guards from the senior class. Not much movement at the top since the beg of June when we looked at it then, but many changes after that. Players are rising up after given more opportunity to thrive on their varsity teams.
1. Dalen Terry (HIllcrest Prep)
-One of the top players nationally and recently committed to Arizona. You won’t find many who are taller, longer and as creative with the ball in his hands then Terry.
2. Evan Nelson (Salpointe Catholic)
-Arguably the top guard in the AIA for this season and has been Tucson’s best player for 2 years. Fast, quick and can shoot it off the dribble with the best of them.
3. Jalin Anderson (Dream City Christian)
-Strong bigger scoring lead guard. Very good defensively and has deep range on his jumper.
4. Tay Boothman (Buckeye)
-Another top-tier AIA guard scored 40+ points in the Section-7 event. He also has now figured out how to run teams and his passing has gone to another level.
5. Trent Hudgens (Moon Valley)
-Super quick defensive guard who has a sweet shooting stroke. Super athletic for his position.
6. Dayton Harris (Skyline)
-Another bigger guard is a pure PG. He is arguably the best passer in the AIA. He has a chance to move up these rankings with a strong season and possible deep playoff run. Verbally committed to Northern Arizona.
7. Yu Yu Turay (Dream City Christian)
-May be the fastest end to end guard in the state. Sees the court well and defends his position.
8. Nahshon Harper (La Joya)
-Another fast PG who may be the top on-ball defender in the AIA. An underrated passer.
9. Deven Franks (Casteel)
-Quick scoring lead guard can put points up quickly. Knows his role and is highly effective at scoring and distributing.
10. Jordan Wollangk (Mesquite)
-Pure PG is very savvy. Arguably a top-5 passer in the AIA that isn’t talked about enough. He will lead an older team deep in the playoffs in 4A.
11. Khalid Whitaker (Flowing Wells)
-Scoring machine. Very fast with the ball and can turn the corner plus shoot it from deep. Should put up 20+ ppg in the HS season.

1. Jake Cioe (Salpointe Catholic) Tough hard nosed pure PG.
2. Cameron Snyder (Tempe) Sniper with a high IQ.
3. TJ Tigler (Mountain Pointe) Fast scoring point guard.
4. Ricky Hernandez (Mesquite) Scoring lead guard can really shoot it.
5. Myles Gantt (Cholla) Thick downhill scoring lead guard.
6. Omar Knight (Hamilton) Scoring lead guard with speed.
7. Keyshon Upchurch (Seton Catholic) Strong defensive PG with speed. Improved shooter.
8. Matthew Fan (SCA) Cerebral pass 1st PG who can shoot it.
9.Matthew Whisler (Chaparral) Top-tier shooter who is a smart player.
10. Tyler Holmes (ALA-QC) Another cerebral lead guard who can shoot.
11. Jaqwuan Myles (Gilbert) Strong downhill PG who is a tough on-ball defender.
