2020 Matt Rogers Commits to American
American got news last night that they’ve added another top talent in the DMV to their 2020 class. Matt Rogers, a 6-foot-8 forward from St. Maria Goretti/Mid-Atlantic Select, gave his pledge to the Eagles and will join guard Collin Smalls from St. Andrew’s Episcopal in their list of commits. Rogers chose American over Canisius, Fairfield, UMass-Lowell, Binghamton, Air Force and Navy.
Rogers experienced a major uptick in his recruitment from the June live period on by collecting eight offers from June 30 to August 1. Rogers had not yet taken any official visits, but had been to American on an unofficial in the recent months.
“I love the staff and I love the atmosphere,” Rogers told Prep Hoops. “I love the location and I love their business program.”
Throughout his junior season, Rogers battled an injury that kept him out of some big games on the Gaels’ schedule. One he was cleared, they went to another level in large part because of the versatility he supplies in the frontcourt. His ability to shoot the three, score from the block and make smart decisions as a passer can open the floor up for any team you put him on. The American staff took note of that.
“They really like my versatility for my position and the fact that I can both shoot and dribble,” Rogers said.
One way Rogers will make his impact right away at the college level on the defensive end is his willingness to communicate. He’s one of the best players at doing so that you’ll find.
Rogers has the make up and all the tools to be a very successful player in the Patriot League. It’s not crazy to think that once he’s a junior, he could be regarded as All-Conference talent.
