Continue ReadingJust around 50 high school prospects (2020-2021) came over to the Eckerd Elite Camp on Saturday.
Taken through a series of drills and some 3-on-3 ball, the Eckerd coaching staff and current players spoke to the high school prospects in attendance. Then, three 5-on-5 games were played.
Here are the standouts that I saw from the 5-on-5 action.
Jalen Cooper (Anclote)
Earning an offer from Eckerd shortly after the end of the camp session, there really wasn’t a more dominant attacker on the day then 2020 Anclote 6’6″ guard/forward Jalen Cooper. He was using his length and high motor to get inside and he made it look easy. In all three games, Cooper was the most potent scorer among the prospects on the two courts. He had a highlight-reel dunk where he threw it off the backboard and threw it down over someone. His jumper is reliable but he’s certainly at his best going downhill.
Parker Conitz (Seminole)
A flat out solid player, 2020 6’3″ Seminole guard Parker Conitz is in for a banner senior season. His 3-point shot is a real strength, but his passing and willingness to scrap on the boards is fun to watch. Conitz is a leader and a determined one at that. He pushed the floor often and made the most of each possession with a look to the basket.
Jalen Parker (Admiral Farragut)
A long body much like the other Jalen mentioned above, 2020 6’5″ Admiral Farragut forward Jalen Parker had a successful afternoon. He was getting to the rack for lay-ins, drawing contact and dunking baskets. Parker has a nice mid-range touch and is starting to fill out in his upper body. His upside is quite evident.
Rivers Lenholt (St. Pete)
Sometimes too unselfish, 2020 6’1″ St. Pete guard Rivers Lenholt started to turn it up in the second and third games and he rarely missed. A transfer from St. Pete Canterbury, his decision making was off the charts and he was simply having fun. 3-pointers are Lenholt’s speciality and he continues to improve as a driver, taking more chances near the rim.
Keon Buckley (Lakewood Ranch)
The highest IQ point 2020 guard in Sarasota, 6’1″ Lakewood Ranch guard Keon Buckley stands out every time I watch him ball. He fits in with any group of kids and his high IQ passing gets everyone going. Buckley can use his shot to stretch the floor when is needed, but his willingness to get everyone involved with his quick passing and cuts is a true strength. Buckley holds everything together for Lakewood Ranch.
Max Jones (Clearwater)
The mid-range jumper for 2020 6’5″ Clearwater guard Max Jones is certainly his top asset and he pours it on at times because of it. Jones likes to get out in transition with his mix of speed and strength. His defense is rock solid as well with his shot blocking skills and 1-on-1 prowess. Jones is going to be the No. 1 guy on both ends of the floor for Clearwater this season.
Austin Allison (Lake Nona)
Making the trip up from Naples, 2020 6’5″ Lake Nona guard Austin Allison turned in a good day. A transfer from Naples Gulf Coast, he was hitting some highly contested shots and made smart decisions. His 3-point jumper is seasoned and Allison is always looking to add points. He is going to be a key presence for Lake Nona this fall.
