Continue ReadingSouthern California played host to a plethora of events during the lone live period in the July calendar. On Day 2 of the live period, we headed to Anaheim Sports Center for a day at Ryan Silver’s West Coast Elite Summer Kick-Off.
In the first of two reports, we talk about some of the guys who stood out on the day.
WCE Summer Tip-Off standouts
Dexter Stratton, 6-7 2021 F, West Coast Elite San Diego
Stratton continues to evolve into one of the more intriguing four-man prospects in Southern California. On offense, Stratton creates mismatches with his ability to attack of the dribble, and hit shots from midrange. He takes a volume of three pointers, and while his results are streaky, his form is playable. Most importantly, Stratton plays the game with an edge and confidence you can’t teach.
Derrien Carter-Hollinger, 6-5 2021 W, Oakland Soldiers
The smooth lefty continues to improve his overall offensive package. Once primarily a catch-and-shoot three-point shooter and slasher, Carter-Hollinger attacks closeouts and has the discipline to take the mid-range jump shot, which he knocks down consistently. Defensively, he has the potential be a lockdown defender, able to check multiple positions at the HS level. San Diego State attended his game throughout the weekends.
Elijah Randall, 6-5 2020 W, West Coast Elite San Diego
Randall does a little bit of everything for his West Coast Elite squad: he scores from every level, rebounds like a big and is a great passer from the high post. His game has taken a big leap forward with his athletic improvement. The JSerra Catholic wing is now finishing above the rim in the halfcourt and transition. A number of Division 2 programs have taken notice.
Harry Morris, 6-5 2020 F, Oz Elite Green
Morris is a relentless competitor who makes winning plays. Teams had trouble keeping him off of the offensive glass, where he created second- and third-chance opportunities for his team. It always seemed like he was making a play: shooting the passing lane for a steal, coming from the weak side to block a shot, or knocking down clutch shots. Morris has a ton of value to high-level Division 2 programs. Though, I could see a lower Division 2 taking a flyer on the jack-of-all-trades.
