Continue ReadingThe brightest lights only come around once a year on the Grassroots circuit nationally. The final live period for teams gives athletes one last chance to show what they can do. Nike Peach Jam is the best tournament in the country featuring over 75% of the ranked players in the country within their circuit. Players who have flown under the radar can blow up with a big weekend on this stage. This past weekend, Rondel Walker did just that helping the Texas Titans to an Elite 8 finish. Walker finished Peach Jam averaging 16.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.
“I feel with my performances over the weekend I showed I can play and compete with the best in the country at a level in which many people did not think I was capable of doing,” said Walker.
The doubters were silences as Walker put on one of the best single-game scoring outings all weekend in his last game against Team Why Not dropping 26 points on 71% shooting from the floor and 75% shooting from three-point land. The performances of Walker this weekend certainly caught many colleges eyes with the offers starting to flow in. Kansas State, Virginia Tech, Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, and Fresno State have extended offers to Walker.
The new offers for Walker join Oklahoma State, SMU, Colorado State, Rutgers, Utah, and UTSA. Walker will have plenty of great options to pick from at the next level. Walker says the key for his great play this past weekend was just sticking to his game.
“The key for me was just to go do what I know how to do,” said Walker. “To play how I know how to play and let the rest take care of itself. I feel like I did that this weekend.”
As for what he wants in a school Walker has a pretty good idea.
“I am looking for a school that is a home away from home,” said Walker. “Somewhere where I feel that the day I step on campus I know as well as my family knows that I will be held accountable on and off the court.”
Although the Grassroots career of Walker has come to a close he will always cherish the memories he made over the years. This Texas Titans squad really grew close.
“I will always remember the laughs we shared and the on and off the court,” said Walker. “Overall just how close we grew as a team. The bond we shared for sure will never be broken. Brothers for life.”
Expect the recruitment of Walker to continue to heat up as he enters his senior year.
