With over 40 teams in attendance, there were tons of talented players for all levels, and it showed why the 757 is considered one of the top areas for basketball in the state of Virginia.
Here’s a look at some of the junior standouts from the camp.
Jacob Cooper | 5’8” PG | Green Run
The definition of a true floor general, Cooper did a great job of controlling the tempo and getting others involved while also being a viable scoring option and a go-to guy offensively. He may not be the biggest guy but Cooper’s super crafty off the bounce, can shoot the pull-up from deep and the midrange and has an array of moves around the basket and in his middle game to negate his size. His understanding of the game and ability to control it makes him one of the best true points in the area.
George Wilson | 6’4” F | Green Run
Wilson, along with Cooper, should see his usage rate go through this roof this season with the departure of Ashley James, and with his body and athleticism he showed he can be a real asset in transition, just the way Green Run plays. He’s a high motor athlete who can run the floor, guard multiple positions and get a lot of points on the glass and just by playing hard. He could be a double-double guy for the Stallions this year.
Caleb Satchell | 6’3” WG | Potomac
He’s been a starter since he was a freshman at Potomac, and now that the young core is starting to blossom Satchell is looking like one of the best shooters, if not players, in Prince William County. The 6’3” wing has a very strong frame that allows him to keep guys in front and bang on the glass to rebound, and now that he’s got a solid point guard in 2022 Kyle Honore he’s getting more and more opportunities to catch-and-shoot from deep where he shoots it very well. He’s going to be an important cog and one of the top scorers for a good Potomac team this year.
Tyrell Harris | 6’6” PF | Potomac
Another guy who has been an impact player for the Panthers since he was a freshman, Harris has continued to develop his perimeter game and now is a walking mismatch that can do it inside and out. He’s a good athlete that can play in transition and rebound in traffic, he has a good feel for the game as a passer and he’s a guy who can score in numerous ways including stepping out, hitting the glass or attacking in face ups. There won’t be many guys in the state who can handle him and his versatility.
Sterling White | 5’11” G | Great Bridge
White has been a big reason for the turn around of a Great Bridge program over the past few years, and he showed why with a great team camp. He splits ball handling duties with senior AJ Walters, but White is a classic combo guard who can create his own shot off the bounce but also moves well without the ball and can make shots off the catch as well. He showed up big down the stretch for Great Bridge in some close games and he’s a big reason I think they’ll surprise some local teams this year.
James Prescott | 6’1” G | Wilson
Another guy who has helped turn around a program that hasn’t had much success in basketball historically, Prescott and company were great all weekend, beating a number of very good teams. Prescott is the straw that stirs the drink, and his willingness to do whatever it takes to win is what is very impressive. He can play both guard positions, he has great poise and leadership, can create and score it off the bounce and plays the game the right way.
