After leading Class B Kinta High School to a State Championship at the conclusion of the 2018-19 season, graduate Braden Ray, along with his brother Cameron, are now looking to conquer his next obstacle: finding the right fit in college.
Ray, who knocked down three first-quarter 3-pointers in the Title game, has a gold ball, a 3.92 GPA and high hopes as he competes for HoH Elite in his post-senior summer.
At 6-foot-even, Ray feels like his best skills are “making the right plays on both ends of the floor” and anticipating passes on defense.
“Offensively, it’s setting other guys up for good shots and hitting down shots when I have open ones,” said Ray.
Ray said his primary role at Kinta was to play the on-ball guard position, where he hopes to remain at the college level.
This summer, Ray said he’s been working on his handles and shooting as well as conditioning.
“I’ve been working out, on a workout program,” said Ray, “trying to get bigger, stronger, gain some weight.”
While Ray does not have the biggest stature, he has the shooting abilities, basketball iQ and work ethic to be successful at the next level.
“I just want to play wherever I can,” said Ray. “Get seen and get better.”
Ray said college coaches should know that he is a gym rat and that he will work hard on and off the court for a program.
“I’m willing to work my way up, because I know I won’t start high on the totem pole,” Ray said, “and I won’t be a problem at all in the classroom.”
