Thomas Redmond 6’4″ Larry Hughes Basketball Academy: The tall combo guard from DeSmet was outstanding in leading LBHA to the 16U championship. He led the team in scoring and assists while shooting a very good percentage from beyond the 3-point line. He was one of the big stock risers of the weekend with his ability to excel at the point or on the wing. His size and length enabled him to be a problem at both ends of the floor.
Trevon Love 6’0″ Gateway: A quick point guard from Vashon who helped lead Gateway to the semifinals of the 17U division. He was one of the best at breaking down his man and getting to the basket. His quickness and slick handles enabled him to drop defenders off on a regular basis, which led to easy layups and nice dimes to open teammates for open jumpers and dunks. He stayed under control, which was also impressive.
Xavier Sykes 5’7″ Missouri Elite 17U: The shifty young combo guard from Rock Bridge played up a level at helped the Elite win the Gold Division bracket. He’s quick and can change directions on the dime and he can really score. He did a nice job of blending in his talents with a new team he just joined and it showed in his passing and he set teammates up for nice looks.
Demarion Shanklin 6’2″ Team Ramey CCM: A solid combo guard from Jennings who helped lead Team Ramey to the 16U championship game. The slick lefty has a lot of offensive tools and he was tough to handle as he can get to the basket and finish at the rim while also also knocking down catch-and-shoot 3-pointers. His quick, but his game is very controlled as well.
Mark Jackson 5’10” Arsenal Hoops: Young point guard from Chaminade who had a productive weekend in helping his team reach the 16U semifinals. He has good quickness, but he is under control without a lot of flash. He was smooth on the drive with an assortment of floaters and finger rolls and he also moved well without the ball.
Wunya Brown 5’10” Arsenal Hoops: An offensive-minded point guard from St. Mary’s who can really create buckets off the dribble with his quickness and handles. He has a nice mid-range game and 3-point range to go along with it. He has improved his ability to distribute the ball and his overall understanding of the point guard position.
Kyle Conkright 5’11” Knights Basketball Academy: A solid young point guard from Ellington who did a nice job with and without the basketball. He can get into lane with some determined drives and set up teammates, but when he plays off the ball, it enables him to light it up from 3-point range.
Sonny Amibale 5’6″ 34Hoops: A small, yet determined point guard from Windsor who is an excellent little floor general. He’s quick and he will get to his spots and distribute the basketball very effectively. He is also a good operator on the pick and roll where he can knock down the jumper off the dribble or locate the open man with a nice pass off the bounce.
