Here, Prep Hoops Kansas takes a look at several players who raised their profile with strong performances on Friday.
23 — Mozae Downing-Rivers, 6’1, G, 2022, Free State, KC Run GMC 15U. @mo_xxiii (pictured)
Downing is a strong, physical point guard who brings combination of toughness at the defensive end, and a calm, cool demeanor at the offensive end. He has a nice pull-up jumper from the mid-range and likes to get into the lane and make plays for his teammates. An unselfish floor general-type, Downing has a good feel for floor space and makes smart, timely passes as he helps direct the Run GMC offense.
10-Lance Bassett, 6’2, F, 2023, Piper, Drive 5
A strong post player who has a physicality to his game that is difficult to stop. He can put his head down and move opponents out of the way and finish with two hands near the rim. Bassett can back people down with his back to the basket and scores well when he’s squared to the goal and has room to operate.
4 — Ahjany Lee, 6’7, F, 2022, St. Mary’s, 2022, KC Run GMC 15U
Lee is a player who is raising his profile this offseason as he continues to grow as a prospect. He has terrific length and an emerging skill set. He has the kind of size major college basketball programs look for in a wing player and the agility and athleticism to play on the perimeter as well as in the paint. He is a versatile defender who works hard on the glass and is a strong rebounder.
24 — Sam Somerhalder, 6’5, G/F, 2022, St. James, Team KC Black 15. @SJ_Somerhalder4
An underrated rising prospect in the 2022 class in Kansas, Somerhalder is a smooth wing player with good size and a versatile skill set. He can handle the ball in the open floor, is a good rebounder and moves well off the ball. He put together a good weekend for Team KC Black and showed off an all-around game.
22-Grant Stubblefield, 5’11, G, 2023, Blue Valley Northwest, Drive 5
A player who can handle the ball and has a good ye for separation. He keeps his head up when he dribbles and is good at finishing plays around the rim through contact in transition or half court settings. He has a nice shot from the free throw line and he is smart to sell contact so he can get there.
