Here were some of the standout forwards at the 16U level from pool play Friday and Saturday
Jorn Everson, Pentagon Schoolers Begeman
Everson is an energy boost on both ends of the floor for Schoolers Begeman. His size and athleticism afford him the ability to defend a number of different player types and his energy on both backboards is a big plus. Everson is a solid passer and showed the ability to knock down jumpers when given the chance. He’s a solid finisher in the paint and while he’s still developing when it comes to creating his own shot, he’s productive because he can catch, finish, run the floor, screen and do a lot of the complementary things.
Jah’Heem Leake, Inspired Athletics Hall
Leake looks like a guy who has a chance to be really solid. He’s got nice touch around the basket, a smooth left shoulder hook shot and the strength and frame to carve out space in the paint. He protects the rim well and can rebound his area at a high rate. He’s got some bad habits to break and he can get a little lax when it comes to his motor but when he’s going, he’s impactful.
Brooks Carroll, ND Attack Green
Carroll is a guy I’ve pegged as a breakout candidate in the WDA next year for Jamestown and he showed again this weekend that he’s got a chance to be a really good piece. He’s a very good shooter from the 3-point line and the mid-range, he moves well without the ball and his nose for the ball affords him a lot of scoring opportunities.
Tyrel Davis, Inspired Athletics Hall
Davis was impressive over the weekend, showing the ability to get to the rim and use his length to finish in traffic. His outside shot comes and goes but he’s a creative finisher in the mid range and around the paint and a capable passer. His length can be an asset on defense if he gets more consistent with getting his hands up. Another guy in the Davies program who has a chance to be a really nice player.
Reece Burckhard, Pentagon Schoolers Begeman
Burckhard is a physical presence inside and he’ll be an intriguing long term prospect given his size, strength and mobility. He’s a defensive presence in the paint and while he’s not used to venturing too far from the rim, he’s got the ability to do so. I’d like to see him set more screens because he’s massive and as a roll man, he’d open up a ton of things for teammates on the weakside or be an absolute menace running to the rim.
Noah Swenson, Pentagon Schoolers Vincent
Swenson is a high-effort big man who can really rebound and finish in the paint. He’s got really nice footwork in the post and can finish effectively with either hand and his motor gives him an opportunity to produce without a high usage rate. He’s a very good rebounder who seems to understand how to use his body and position himself on both ends of the floor.
