Many highly competitive games including the All-Star games.
Here were some more of the standout juniors from AZ:
Owen Shaw F 6’6 190 Arcadia (Pictured)
-A true inside outside threat has surprisingly nice bounce. He can make catch 3’s plus drive the lane and flush it down in traffic. He missed Tuesday, but clearly made up for it on Wednesday in the regular games and played well in the Top-40 game as well. He has a sturdy frame/good build and doesn’t mind playing through contact. He can handle the ball well and is a kind of a tweener but in a good way. He can defend both forward spots and get dirty inside to rebound. He is clearly making his biggest growth to his game right now.
Marcus Wady PG 5’10 155 Desert Vista
-Was MVP of the Non-Senior game and we moved him up to the Top-20 game and he fit right in. He has an ultra tight handle with a lot of wiggle to get by his defenders. He does tend to favor his right hand but still manages to get into the lane and score. He is a streaky perimeter shooter but can make passes with either hand and is competitive defensively.
Jamison Kay SG 6’3 155 Gila Ridge
-A long newcomer impressed on his first big stage. He has a nice handle and can create offense for himself. He can shoot it from deep just as good as anyone in the class and takes long strides to get in the lane. He is thin but has obvious upside due to assumed growth/more muscle and shot making ability. Once he became comfortable playing versus the talent, he was better each game he played, and was one of the best players in the Non-Senior All-Star game.
Alex Gaylor PF 6’7 210 Paradise Valley
-Highly skilled inside outside threat can post up but prefers to face-up from the perimeter. He has a good looking jumper from mid to the 3pt line. He also can handle the ball well up the court and rip through and score through contact. He rebounds well using his length and girth.
Jose Miguel SF 6’3 180 Maricopa
-One of the better catch shooting wings at the camp. He gets hot quickly and can rattle them off and he has quicker shooting release and seems to square up fast. Has a mid-range jumper and rebounds well in and out of his area. Makes good reads to teammates as well.
Demari Hackett PF 6’5 180 Valley Vista
-Physical low post player is starting to expand his game. He is a back to the basket type but is now facing up to the 3pt line. He has a good build/strong frame and good post footwork to score versus bigger players. Rebounds everything in area with his girth and strength and just plays hard.
Myles Hersha PF/C 6’8 180 Salpointe Catholic
-Long and lean post player is more of a finesse type. He faces up to the 3pt line but does have a nice jump hook inside. He moves well up the court and rebounds at a good rate with great length. He does need to get stronger to take the pounding and keep progressing his game. He may be still growing and will fill in more.
Ruben Cazares PF 6’7 190 Cholla
-Another long finesse forward. He prefers to hang out at the 3pt line and let it fly. He has a nice stroke and feels most comfortable there. He rebounds the ball well but lacks core strength. He picked up an offer from Park University-Gilbert after the camp.
Samuel Yeager SG/SF 6’3 175 Prescott
-Thicker wing scorer who is a good shooter. He is best off the catch but can get to the cup. He was consistent from the 3pt line but can still drive it using a nice handle. Despite not playing at a big school, he fit right in and made the Non-Senior game. He has a decent burst and played with no fear. He looks primed to have a breakout season.
Matthew Holmes PG 6’0 150 American Leadership Academy-Queen Creek
-Skilled lead guard who can shoot it from deep. He has a nice hesitation move to get into the lane and can make 3’s off the catch. He compliments his older brother Tyler Holmes plus stars Brooke and Lighthall.
Jevon Humphrey SG 6’1 175 Chaparral
-Skilled and tough scoring guard. A little undersized but is money from mid range. He likes to pull-up off the dribble and can use his thicker body to score it inside. He can hit the 3pt shot and has good length to play the passing lanes.
Dwight McKnight PG 6’0 155 Valley Vista
-Fast and athletic downhill lead guard. He has a strong upper body and takes contact well to score it in the paint. He is good with the ball and has a nice first step. He will need to make strides with his perimeter shooting consistency but will defend on the ball with a lot of energy.
Austin Hutchings PG 5’11 155 Perry
-Cerebral pure PG understands the game. He is a very good passer and tried making plays for others instead of launching poor shots. Has a smaller frame but nice speed and he can stroke it from the 3pt line.
Joshua Fletcher SF 6’2 170 Agua Fria
-Tough undersized forward is an active player. He can shoot it consistently from mid-range plus rip though and get to the rim. He is a tough player who doesn’t mind contact and rebounds in and out of his area. He will run through a wall to make a play and should have a good upcoming HS season.
