Yesterday and the earlier part of today were the round robin phases but later on we saw the all-star games. Yours truly was lucky enough to be invited to coach so I got an up close and personal feel for the game.
The teams were absolutely stacked and evenly matched. It went back and forth between 2-5 points all the way until the last 3 minutes when the black team ran away with it. Overall, it was a really fun event and it saw a lot of different people in the Arizona basketball community come together despite differences to support the kids, that’s what it’s all about.
Day 2 Standouts:
Ty Ty Washington 6’3 2021 G Cesar Chavez
Washington was an animal in day 2. He had a noticeable spark that he played with early on in the day. He called out his opponents and showed them why he is one of the top recruits in the state by scoring on them repeatedly. He even had a huge dunk on virtually the entire team. Check social media for that, it’s sure to be around. He shot the ball well as he always does and he finished around the cup very strong. Washington himself is super strong and finishes very well through pure strength.
Ricardo Sarmiento 6’0 2021 G Cesar Chavez
Sarmiento absolutely killed it today. From start to finish, he played so much harder than any kid in the gym. He was very quick and pesky on defense, which resulted in a ton of steals. Offensively, he shot the ball extremely well and led his team throughout the day. Sarmiento is pretty much another coach out there on the court.
Fallou Diagne 6’10 2020 F AZ Compass
Fallou stepped in late in the event but definitely made an impact immediately. He is so versatile, being 6’10 and moves as well as he does. Diagne can also shoot it with great efficiency and has the softest finger roll around the rim. Potential is sky high for this guy.
Tanner Poeschl 6’6 2020 F Skyline
Didn’t see Tanner earlier in the day but he definitely showed out during the All-Star Game. He runs the floor so well and is very quick. This combination resulted in a ton of easy buckets and some big time dunks. Poeschl really put on a show for everyone in attendance and I think he impressed all of the colleges in attendance as well.
