They were extremely quick in transition, getting easy buckets and keeping their opponents tired. When they weren’t pushing the pace their offense ran smoothly, delivering them easy shots all weekend. Constant cutting, picking, and movement allows this team to be dangerous. Some standout players were Hunter Humphreys, Deandre Randolph, and Jaden Brownell.
Bingham: This tournament was a great showcase for the Bingham Miners, with various teams playing in multiple brackets. Their varsity team played very well, beating plenty of good competition. This team has terrific size across all positions especially in the post. They were getting a ton of rebounds all weekend long. Most of their offense relied on isolation basketball and working the ball into the post. If shots from the perimeter are falling while their post game is strong, this is a really good team.
Fremont: Fremont was one of the most impressive teams I watched during the tournament. Even though they lost in the finals there was still plenty to proud of. Dallin Hall led this team all weekend, having a standout performance. This team is solely reliant on him though. Everyone that plays can shoot the three and make plays. When one persons shot’s are not falling someone else steps up. This is a well coached, fundamentally disciplined team who can beat anyone when they are playing well. The 2019-20 high school basketball year should be exciting.
Layton: The Layton Lancers, led by Ethan Potter, played extremely well all weekend long. Their size and shooting allowed them to compete against any team they saw in the bracket. Along with those attributes, they were fundamentally sounds, rarely turning the ball over and making sharp passes, allowing their teammates great opportunities to create. Not only was the team a threat on the offensive end but also on defense. They had a couple shot blockers, including Potter, which made it difficult for anyone to score on the inside against them.
Pleasant Grove: Pleasant Grove definitely stood out this weekend as they took first place, beating Fremont in the finals. This team played well all weekend, keeping their confidence up allowing them beat everyone they went up against. Like the majority of teams in the tournament they relied on their shooting and it did not let them down. Most of their starters could create plays for themselves which helped open up passing lanes and created much more space for their offense to operate. Pleasant Grove is very much looking forward to the 2019-20 season after this showing.
