Recruiting Report: Zaakir Williamson (2021)
It hasn’t taken long for Philadelphia native Zaakir Williamson to make an impact on the local hoops scene in the DMV. The versatile 6-foot-7 forward has been a consistent standout at both the high school and grassroots setting. Most recently, Williamson played an integral role for 16U DC Premier, one of the top teams in the country in that age group.
“I want to show my all-around game. Not to just say I’m a back-to-the basket player or a center. I just want to show coaches I can play,” the versatile forward said during a recent interview with Prep Hoops. “I can put it on the floor. I can also shoot very well. A lot of people don’t know that.”
Williamson happily admits he’s still in the gym working every day on his overall skill set. He is also focused on getting in better shape, and has plans to intensify his current strength and conditioning regiment.
Who does Williamson model his game after?
“DeAndre Hunter. We both have that little stretch 4 role. But we can also play the 3. And if we need to, in certain situations can go to the 5. Him being from Philly, I work out with him a lot. I’ve kind of been studying his game and learning it more to get better.”
Mount St. Mary’s, Towson, UMBC, Rutgers, Maryland, and West Virginia are some of the schools who are showing interest in Williamson. He recently visited the Mount and shared his thoughts with us.
“The Mount Visit was great. I loved the coaching staff. The school, its just like a school for me. It’s isolated. There’s nothing to do but focus on basketball, which I need.”
Which schools does Zaakir Williamson hope to receive interest from?
“I’d love interest from Tennessee. I feel as though they fit my style of play. Virginia. Because of DeAndre Hunter. Auburn, and Villanova.”
What can Williamson bring to a college program?
“Energy. effort. Competing at all times, and my versatility on the floor. I’m able to spread the floor. I’m able to do a lot. I feel like I can bring my all-around package to a school and fit what they’re looking for.”
Zaakir Williamson is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-five prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Maryland and DC’s 2021 class, click here.
