Recruiting Report: Tymu Chenery (2020)
Tymu Chenery, a class of 2020 wing prospect from Episcopal High School, is in the conversation for biggest sleeper in the area. Listed at 6-foot-6, Chenery is long and athletic enough to defend all five positions at the high school level. He will likely be equipped to guard three or four positions at the collegiate level.
“I just try to use my athleticism,” Chenery said of the impact he makes defensively. “If I can’t block a shot try, to contest it.”
With his team losing several key contributors from last season, Chenery understands how important his role is heading into this year.
“My role is just to be a leader. Defend, be vocal, and obviously try to help with the scoring as well,” he explained. “This year, I’m really trying to focus on being a leader. We’ve got a lot of new young guys, so I try to lead them the right way. So they can get better and we can get better as a team.”
Since June 1, Chenery has received offers from Brown, James Madison, Quinnipiac, Bucknell, and Mount St. Mary’s respectively. Other new schools like William & Mary and Northeastern have also reached out. Chenery is admittedly a big “relationship” guy, so the schools able to build good rapport will probably have the best odds to land him.
With that being said, don’t be surprised to see more schools get involved before the end of the summer. Chenery is one of many talented players featured on Team BBC, and we imagine that a bevy of coaches will have eyes on him.
Tymu Chenery is currently ranked by Prep Hoops as a top-15 prospect in his class. To view the full ranking of Virginia’s 2020 class, click here.
