Moberg appeared in 24 games for the Rebels as a junior, breaking into a very deep rotation off the bench for a 23-6 team that was a play or two away from a State berth. Lots of impact players graduate, but just as many return: Moberg will likely run the point guard spot with Jared Walter, Francis Nwaokorie, Jaice Miller and Ethan Rens all having gained experience at the varsity level too. “We had a deep team last year so our experience will help us play into March,” he said. “My coaches want me to take more of a leadership role since we graduate our top two guards.”
He’ll have plenty of talent to help lead in 2019-20. The Rebels have a chance to be a top 10-15 level team in AAAA again. First, Moberg’s AAU experience will finish up this summer, including a trip to Dallas this weekend. He says his Minnesota Heat team has been a bright spot.
“My experience with the Heat has been great,” he said. “Willie (Vang) and Conner (Nord) have been great and also helped me a lot with the recruiting process.
“My favorite memory is going 3-1 in Madison and beating a good RWA team at the buzzer.”
Some of Moberg’s best traits include his toughness and competitive nature. He also has proven ability to knock down open jumpers. A very good halfcourt offense orchestrator, he hopes to keep improving at controlling tempo while manning the point. Meanwhile, college programs are noticing his consistency.
“I’ve been in contact with UW-Superior, Bethany Lutheran, UW-River Falls and UW-Eau Claire the most this summer,” he said.
Watch out for the balanced and experienced Rebels this winter with Moberg an even bigger part of the equation.
