Recruiting Report: Mohamed Toure (2021)
Mohamed Toure, a class of 2021 forward from Sandy Spring, is one of the more intriguing prospects you’ll find locally. At close to 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-8 wingspan, he has some physical tools you can’t teach. Toure discussed his overall game, early recruitment, and expectations heading into the upcoming season during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?
MT: “Fast paced. I work hard on the fast break. I move fast. I move the ball quickly and run in transition really well.”
PH: What’s something you do on the court that might not show up on the stat sheet?
MT: “Boxing out. I might not be getting all the rebounds, but I definitely move people out the way and make sure the ball drops to one of our teammates.”
PH: What’s the most improved part of your overall game?
MT: “My handle has improved. Back then, I used to be in the short corner, catch and shoot. I’ve been working on my handle more and that’s what I’ve been doing around the perimeter.”
PH: What’s the biggest difference between playing at Sandy Spring and with The District?
MT: “Different roles. High school, I have bigger role. I always have the ball in my hands. With The District, there’s more talent around me so it’s easier to move the ball.”
PH: Who do you model your game after?
MT: “Right now probably Brandon Ingram and Cam Reddish. Both kind of have the same build as me. Ingram is skinny and long. Reddish is also a really good player, and I feel like I play like him.”
PH: Who’s recruiting you so far?
MT: “Delaware State and Mount St. Mary’s.”
PH: What are your goals?
MT: “Short-term, probably just improve my jumper. Mid-term, working on being more of a point guard. Long-term, probably just getting stronger.”
PH: What are your expectations heading into your junior year?
MT: “To be a way better player. Stronger, moving bodies, and using my body to finish around the rim instead of my length.”
