Prospect Spotlight: Will Margarites (2021)
Will Margarites gained valuable experience this spring and summer on the grassroots circuit while playing with The District Basketball Club. The class of 2021 lead guard, who has transferred to Wootton, is expected to be one of the more well-rounded guards in Montgomery County this upcoming season. Margarites discussed his overall game and much more during a recent interview with Prep Hoops.
PH: For those who haven’t seen you play, how would you describe your overall game?
WM: “I’m pretty much a true point guard. I look to get people involved all the time. Whenever I drive, I look to kick, but I also have the ability to score.”
PH: What’s something you do on the court that might not show up on the stat sheet?
WM: “Hustle plays. I’m always diving on the ground. I’ll take charges, and no matter what I play hard.”
PH: Describe the adjustment from high school to AAU
WM: “It’s a little bit different, but these guys are my family. I like playing with them and i’m gonna miss it. High school is gonna be another story. It’s gonna be fun.”
PH: What are your expectations at Wootton?
WM: “Run the team. Try and get us to states. Score when I need to and get people involved.”
PH: What do you need to work on?
WM: “My outside shot and being more vocal.”
PH: Who do you like to watch and maybe model your game after?
WM: “Anthony Cowan. I’ve just loved him since St. John’s, and I like watching him at Maryland. He’s small, but he can get in the lane, he can shoot when he needs to and he gets people involved.”
PH: What are your goals?
WM: “Short-term: get stronger, work on my game more. Long term: having success for the rest of my high school carer and get to the college level.”
