Each year we see certain prospects that fall through the crack as far as recruitment goes, some due to location, and some for various other reasons. Toyaz Solomon is one of those players for the class of 2019 as he recently decided to attend Combine Academy for a Post graduate season to attempt to raise his stock. We like what he is as a player already but we are even more excited about what he has the potential to be a few years from now.
During his season at Northwest Halifax, he helped the squad put together a very impressive record of 25-2, advancing to the 4th round of the state playoffs. He would average 13 PPG, pull down 10 rebounds a night, and block an outstanding 6 shots per game, his size and length allowed him to play multiple positions from wing to post. Following the season he was selected and attended the East NC Fab 40 Camp and performed well against some of the top players on the eastern side of the state, picking up some college interest from various programs.
We love his upside and he reminds of us somewhat of former Westover HS & current South Carolina State Forward Damani Applewhite who is currently an All-Conference MEAC player. He has the height, the wingspan and skillset that we feel should make his transition to the next level smooth, the key for him will be to live in the weight room. Adding to his upper body and increasing the motor that he plays with are the two main improvements that could help him see his stock rise over the next few months.
Schools at the Low Major and D2 level’s should be tracking and calling as he is the type of player that can have a nice impact on those levels and an outstanding career before it’s all said and done. We feel that once he gets into the right college program, he will only get better, he’s coachable and understands how to play within the team concept.
