The developing 6-foot-7, 190-pound rising junior from Beaverton missed a lot of the spring due to a back injury so he’s ready to make up for lost time. Erikstrup emerged this past season in the post with the Beavers and is hopeful a big summer will grab him some early college recruiting attention.
This spring and summer, Erikstrup has been playing up with International Elite’s 17U squad – and it was a reward for a year where he emerged as a force at Beaverton.
“It was a really fun experience and our team played together really well,” Erikstrup said of his sophomore season. “We made the playoffs and we came together as a team. It was just a fun season being with the guys and the team. I felt like I really improved as I played on the freshman team last year and I moved up to varsity. I definitely improved my ball-handling and my post moves.”
Erikstrup is solid in the post, but has the ability to step away and knock down face-up jumpers. He’s hoping his versatility and upside will attract the attention of college coaches – something he’s somewhat familiar with as his twin older sisters are Division I commitments (Arizona State and San Diego) in the Class of 2020 for girls basketball. He certainly wouldn’t mind following in their footsteps.
“My main goal is to make it to D-I, but we’ll see what happens,” Erikstrup said. “Honestly I’m looking for something on the West Coast as I want to stay close to my family, but other than that I’m just looking to play ball in college.”
First things first, Erikstrup has the month of July to play and he’s just looking to make an impression. “I’ve been hurt for a month and a half, but I feel like I’m getting a lot better,” Erikstrup said. “I want to keep on improving on everything like my shooting ability and my strength, and hopefully next year I can come out and be First Team All-State.”
