THE FAVORITES
No. 6 ABC Young Lions Black
People aren’t sleeping on the Young Lions any more. Getting the sixth overall seed in the 16U Division, the Young Lions have one of the state’s best kept secrets in Jayden Jackson as well as a host of underrated talent at the guard position. This group also has a win over Wisconsin Playground Club back in April.
No. 12 Wisconsin Crusaders
This group gets really good guard play from Nate Abel and Dustin Beauprey. The Adidas Silver Gauntlet squad also has a couple of sleepers including Aidan Ottery and Mack Sebert. They’ll open up against Minnesota Rise on Friday night.
No. 4 Wisconsin Playground Club
They were already perhaps one of three overall favorites and now that they’ve added David Joplin, PGC is looking like a very strong title contender. The trio of Brayden Dailey, Cameron Palesse, and Cade Meyer have been dominant on the Prep Hoops Circuit. This group turned a big corner this summer, finishing 6-2 at the Under Armour Finals and finishing second at the Brawl for Ball in Grand Rapids, Mich. this past weekend.
DARK HORSE CONTENDERS
No. 11 ABC Young Lions Teal
You could definitely make the case that this group belongs in the favorites category. John Lovelace, Ronald Kirk, and Marcs Mbow make up a talented, under the radar squad who’s shown the ability to play with anyone in the Prep Hoops Circuit. The Young Lions will get North Dakota Phenom in their opener Friday afternoon.
No. 34 JH1 Elite
JH1 Elite should be riding high after they nearly took down PGC at the Summer Challenge. While they’re back in the 30’s, this squad is definitely playing some of its best basketball at the right time. Owen Meyer, Isaiah Hammond, and Josh Crubaugh lead a unit that’s quite deep and plays well together.
No. 46 Wisconsin Rap
Depending on how much Brandin Podziemski plays at the 16U level, you have to at least consider Wisconsin Rap. While their star generally plays up, he could make a big difference in a title run while playing alongside Brennan Timm and others. Rap will look to upset Capital City Teamwork in the first round.
No. 17 Wisconsin United
Wisconsin United can flat out score the ball. The inside-outside combo of Brandon Leach and Jeremiah Burke has been terrific during the travel season. Two players that can get up an down in transition and challenge defenders with terrific isolation games, Burke and Leach will open up against the Michigan Hoyas on Friday.
